i had to install arch with kernel version 2.4 because of the NIC driver that would not compile under 2.6. now i want to update the system but when i tried pacman -Syu i got a whole lot of ERROR: kernel too old messages. after that kernel would panic no matter what i tried passing during boot. i gave up and re-installed the system with kernel 2.4. what is the best way to upgrade the system and is there a way to avoid all of the previous problems? is it better to first upgrade kernel by itself and than all other packages or the other way around? thanks...
p.s. if i compiled the NIC driver using kernel 2.4 will it still work after upgrading to 2.6?

Imho the current Arch version does not run with kernels lower than 2.6.16 (or was it 2.6.9, I am not sure). Anyway: If you want to use kernel24 you have to downgrade glibc and compile (everything) yourself.
