Many problens with X apps

I finally found what I was looking for, a slackware which could solve dependencies.

Unfortunately, I'm having some problems with applications that depend on X. Opera shows segmentation fault (it seems someone else is having this problem too), firefox constantly crashes at certain sites, kopete crashes (SIGABR), gaim crashes when I'm going to send a message...

When I try to run beryl it shows an error:

Detected xserver : NVIDIA

Checking Display :0.0 ...

Checking for XComposite extension : passed (v0.3)
Checking for XDamage extension : passed
Checking for RandR extension : passed
Checking for XSync extension : passed

Checking Screen 0 ...

Checking for GLX_SGIX_fbconfig : passed
Checking for GLX_EXT_texture_from_pixmap : failed

No GLX_EXT_texture_from_pixmap

Is it a configuration problem or my video board doesn't support it. It's a nVidia TNT2.

Any help is welcomed. Thanks.

Just a quick check, is your /etc/X11/xorg.conf similar to the one in the wiki?

Re: Many problens with X apps

MOst crashes you see are from freetype 2.3.3-1, please upgrade to 2.3.3-2. Can't help you with the beryl issue. For opera: it's a bug in opera. You can either upgrade to the latest nightly snapshot, downgrade libx11 to the previous version, or run your X server with 16bit colors instead of 24/32 bit.

Edit: for beryl, you will need a recent nvidia driver. Those drivers don't support your TNT2, and your TNT2 is too slow to handle all nice effects of beryl. So if you really want beryl, get yourself a card with good driversupport, like ATI R200 (Radeon 8500 - 9250), Intel integrated graphics (i845G-G945) or a recent nvidia card with support from the new drivers.

Re: Many problens with X apps

It's strange because my card appears at the beryl wiki as supported (is the first of the list):
http://gentoo-wiki.com/HARDWARE_Video_C … idia_Cards

And I can run apps like blender with no problems at all.

Thank you guys.

Re: Many problens with X apps

I'm still having some problems, with KDE now.

When I type anything with accents, like çáúý (no, it isn't a word), it works fine in GTK apps, but at KDE, Kopete, Konqueror, etc I got strange caracters. I'd say it's because KDE is using ISO-8859-1 and I picked the locale en_US.UTF at installation.

And now I can't find that file I need to uncomment to run locale-gen. I think it'd solve the problem, but I'm not sure.
