Hi There,
After I upgraded to kernel 2.6.20 beyond, the vga=792 option that I used to use with 2.6.19-beyond is not working now. Is prints the menu at the beginning to select another vga mode but they're like 80x60 and etc.. Although, nvidia driver is not working. I think I'm going to downgrade the kernel for now..

Same here. Now, i've old 2.6.19 kernel that works perfectly.

I think I have found the reason. The kernel name is not beyond... I mean, when we install kernel26beyond 2.6.20, the directory name in /lib/modules/kernel* is 2.6.20-ARCH.. But it should be 2.6.20-beyond.. Can somebody please confirm this ?

nope, I think i misconfigured it to use vesafb-tng again.
It's catch 22 between vesafb-tng and vesafb. And people aren't happy whichever I choose.
vesafb: Works. Stable. But doesnt offer higher and custom resolutions that people like
vesafb-tng: Usually works, causes lockups on boot and other wierd symptoms for a small few. But does offer higher resolutions, and a far far easier configuration. Though is of questionable design.
Both camps that each advantages are small. So which minority do i favour?

Well... i've changed video=vesafb to video=vesafb-tng, added 1024x768-16@60 after mttr and removed vga=792:
...root=/dev/hda3 video=vesafb-tng:ywrap,mtrr,1024x768-16@60...
This doesnt work. Any idea?
Edit: it works now. video=vesafb instead vesafb-tng hehe. I've realised vesafb-tng is more slow than vesafb (alternating between tty), is it possible??

nvidia should work fine, take the 'nvidia' pkgbuild for kernel26-2.6.20, and modify it for beyond. Don't use the old beyond 2.6.19 PKGBUILDs.

Should I use ABS or AUR for this ? I got used to do this by simply using pacman.. The problem with the 2.6.20-beyond is that, the directory name in /lib/modules/ is 2.6.20-ARCH instead of 2.6.20-beyond.. I guess that that system searches the module in 2.6.20-beyond, but there's no directory with that name.. Although, vesafb has a problem.. :S

I've installed ati drivers using abs. Also i got splash using 2.6.20-beyond

Do you use the splash with ati drivers ? I have nvidia in my laptop.. I can't have 1280x800 splash screen.. I mean I don't know how to do it..

I cant too i think kernel must have support to get 1280x800. I set to 1024x800 in my laptop and it works fine.
Also i've downgraded to 2.16.19 because i like it more than new version.

Does the verbose option works for you? When I choose verbose and quite I also receive all the extra infos (kernel messages) at boot up. When using silent mode and pressing F2 for verbose mode it works ok. Is there any solution?

I prefer vesafb, but whatever you decide to go with, stick with it - it's nice to not need to change menu.lst when upgrading the kernel.

So what is the workaround? Simply use vesafb? But what commandline options does it take? vga=0x318 ?

they had no way to indicate successful termination of their C programs.
