kernel panic when using wpa_supplicant on wireless RT2500 (PCMCIA)

I'm using the rt2x00-cvs package from UNSTABLE.
My /etc/rc.conf loads the 80211, rc80211_simple and rt2500pci kernel modules at boot time as required.
Everything works fine with my ADSL modem/router's security disabled.
However, when I enable WPA-PSK and try using wpa_supplicant, I get a kernel panic.

This is odd as when I first installed the rt2x00-cvs package I got wpa_supplicant working via command line configuration and I was connected to the internet.  When I rebooted, the kernel panics started to happen.

This is what happens after reboot:

[root@thinkpad ~]# iwconfig wlan0 mode managed essid ShagNet channel 10
[root@thinkpad ~]# ifconfig wlan0 up
Disabling IRQ #11
[root@thinkpad ~]# wpa_supplicant -D wext -i wlan0 -c /etc/wpa_supplicant.conf
:
:
:
kernel panic (blah blah blah)

Does the 'disabling IRQ' message have anything to do with things?  I didn't come up when I was successful with wpa_supplicant at the CLI (just after installing the rt2x00-cvs package and before reboot).
Is there anyway I can capture the kernel panic information as it scrolls off the screen?  I tried appending '-dddd' to the wpa_supplicant command above, but that didn't work.  I also tried directing the command output to a text file but, again, that didn't work.

I'm kinda stumped and hoped someone could help me.

Should I have put this in the 'Kernel' forum?  If so, could a mod please move this post for me?

Completely re-wrote (edited) post as situation has changed - for the worst .
