Thunderbird and pdf files

I just switched from KMail to Thunderbird. I notice that when I have a pdf attachment, double clicking on it will only allow me to Save the file, not Open it. Is there something I'm missing?

Edit=>prefferences=>attachments=>show and edit...
Select pdf externsion, doubleclick on it, and select the aplication to open the pdf file.

There's nothing in that list to select. It' just a blank list (no file types listed at all).
