Using LILO, 2.6.16-ARCH kernel on IDE drives... I might have updated a few apps... there have been no kernel updates done and this has been working just fine in the past... rather annoyed... I get this on boot:
mdadm: No arrays found in config file
pivot_root: pivot_root: No such file or directory
umount: /initrd: No such file or directory
umount: /initrd: No such file or directory
/linuxrc: 521: /sbin/busybox: not found
Freeing unused kernel memory: 244k freed
/bin/sh: Can't open auto
Kernel panic - not syncing: Attempted to kill init!
fstab:
/dev/hda1 /boot ext2
/dev/hda2 swap swap
/dev/hda3 / ext2
... and then hdb, hdc,hde,hdg but they are all data drives
Lilo.conf:
boot=/dev/hda
default=arch
lba32
prompt
image=/boot/vmlinuz26
label=arch
root=/dev/hda3
initrd=/boot/initrd26.img
read-only
append="no-apic"
I'm missing something stupid here, hit me on the head, thanks!

apparently append="noraid" fixes whatever broke.
I added it on a whim being somewhat sarcastic with my system... and it worked. gg heineken
kinda weird that of all the things that break my box, its RAID drivers and I'm not even running RAID.

If you're interested in establishing the exact cause of the failure, check which packages were updated.

2.6.16?

Yeah, why are you using 2.6.16 - you can't run an arch system that's only partially upgraded.

A kernel that is a year old or so and the old initrd that still uses busybox, created by the discontinued and deprecated mkinitrd - I don't think you will get any suggestion but to update your system.
