mythtv segfaults

I'd really like to use the removecommercials script, but for some reason, mythcommflag (mythfrontend and mythtranscode too) exits with a segfault, which stops the script. I can run each command in the script alone, with the desired result, but because of segfault, can't run the script itself. Does anyone have any ideas about this? Or for that matter, how to get around the segfaults in bash if I can't stop 'em?
