Firefox input/output error

Suddenly I was unable to start firefox. I've got several extensions installed, so I moved $HOME/.mozilla to another place but all I get when I start it is: "Failed to execute default Web Browser. Input/output error."

I've tried to reinstall firefox, remove firefox + dependencies and install again but no go. Firefox woun't even start in safe mode or as root and I get no messages when starting in console... Suggestions on what to do is much appreciated.

You might have a hard drive issue. Like a bad sector where firefox is residing on the disk. Take a look at dmesg and see if there are any other issues.

Re: Firefox input/output error

I have the same error here. and the weird thing is that this only happens in the user mode. When I log as a root everything works.
Another thing that happens with me as an user, is that I can't switch through the VCs.  If I am with a text editor open, when I press CTRL+ALT+F(NUMBER) I get letters as answers.
Even if I go to the xterm and give the command "exo-open --launch WebBrowser" I have the output: "Resource problem creating '/tmp/orbit-hugo' aborting..."
Everything only happens when I log as an user. I don't have much skills at hardware but... if it was a bad sector problem, wouldn't it happen either as root?

Re: Firefox input/output error

Wouldn't be a conflict between Bon-echo (as the repositories from pacman calls "firefox") and mozilla firefox on the /home files???

Are the permissions on your /tmp directory correct?

Re: Firefox input/output error

The permissions on my /tmp are: drwxrwxrwt.
This is the normal output of a "ls -la" inside of /tmp:
total 20
drwxrwxrwt  4 root root 4096 2007-06-21 14:35 .
drwxr-xr-x 20 root root 4096 2007-05-20 10:33 ..
drwxrwxrwt  2 root root 4096 2007-06-21 14:27 .ICE-unix
-r--r--r--  1 root hugo   11 2007-06-21 14:27 .X0-lock
drwxrwxrwt  2 root root 4096 2007-06-21 14:27 .X11-unix
-rw-------  1 hugo hugo    0 2007-06-21 14:27 .xfsm-ICE-AXO1TT

I looked at this directory and I concluded that ".ICE-unix" and ".X11-unix" are default directories. When I enter on a GUI like xfce4, ".X0-lock" and ".xfsm-ICE-NNNNN" are created to each user. However, entering on a Web Browser, a "orbit-user" directory is created, and my Linux create it only for root. Is there any configuration file which says what can be created or not on the /tmp?

My user "hugo" is joined to the root group.

Re: Firefox input/output error

Well, I tried to install the Second Life Package. However, unfortunatelly it has failed. The package asked me for some dependencie or something like this. But... anyway, I've uninstalled the X-window-system because I realised that I didn't have this problem on CLI. I know it is complicated, thanks for all guys!
