sata_sis -- lsmod shows ata loaded, no sd* in /dev...

Hello Archers,

I have had an external eSATA drive working beautifilly for some time now, but last night when I got home the "Read" LED was flashing on a regular interval.

Now no devices are created at startup. This drive is < 1 year old, so I'm praying it hasn't failed. Any debugging ideas for me? Here's some output that might help narrow it down:

4766 [0] /usr/src/linux-2.6.20-ARCH # grep SATA_SIS /usr/src/linux-2.6.20-ARCH/.config
CONFIG_SATA_SIS=m
4767 [0] /usr/src/linux-2.6.20-ARCH # lsmod|grep -i ata
sata_sis 6020 0
libata 94100 1 sata_sis
4768 [0] /usr/src/linux-2.6.20-ARCH # dmesg|grep sata
sata_sis 0000:00:05.0: version 0.6
sata_sis 0000:00:05.0: Detected SiS 180/181/964 chipset in SATA mode
scsi0 : sata_sis
scsi1 : sata_sis
4769 [0] /usr/src/linux-2.6.20-ARCH # ls /dev/|grep sd
4770 [0] /usr/src/linux-2.6.20-ARCH #
4770 [0] /usr/src/linux-2.6.20-ARCH # grep sda /etc/fstab
/dev/sda1 /drum/bak ext3 defaults 0 0
/dev/sda2 /drum/dl ext3 defaults 0 0
/dev/sda3 /drum/img ext3 defaults 0 0
/dev/sda4 /drum/music ext3 defaults 0 0

Thanks,

dont know if this applies to you also but
http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Con … io#Problem
could be if you change setup  in mkinitpio.conf
if you havent already tried changing modules being loaded????
just a thought

Thanks for the response, rayjgu3. I removed "scsi" from that list; that made all the difference.

Please disregard my original response--I didn't realize I had to rebuild the img file as well as editing the .conf.

I appreciate your help very much.

Thanks again!
