I'm having problem with kernel 2.6.20.7-1 and 2.6.20.7-2 as well. My computer will just hang when trying to echo mem to /sys/power/state (after unload modules and stop services). This happens regardless of what software I use to perform the suspend (hibernate script, powersave, echo directly). Downgrade to kernel 2.6.20.6 solves the problem.
I have loaded all neccessary ACPI modules: ac, battery, processor, thermal... (even try to load all ACPI modules). Beside that change, I don't know what is the different between kernel 2.6.20.6 and 2.6.20.7. Maybe I should check their changelog.
Anyone having the same problem?

Well, I don't know why this post is related to my problem. I'm not bother manually loading all these ACPI modules. All the modules load fine. I'm not afraid of changes, I just want to know if anyone is having a similar problem with suspend to RAM because it seems that I'm the only one. Of course if I want I can keep using the old kernel, recompile a new one, or even try 2.6.21-rc7, it doesn't matter. Just want to know what can be wrong with the current kernel. As I said, I have tried to load all acpi modules, so I don't know what can make the difference here.
