I have an xfs partion for general storage that, after re-installing arch and windows, is marked as unknown in parted.
Is anyone aware of any file recovery programs for xfs or if there is a non-destructive way to fix this partition?
Thanks in advance,
gastro

Are you sure it doesn't mount? I think I saw xfs partition marked as unknown somewhere lately, but it worked properly nevetheless.
xfs_repair (part of xfsprogs package) is the tool for repairing xfs filesystems.

thanks for the reply.
xfs_repair just says that I have a bad primary superblock and then it tries to find the secondary one.
It does this until I manually stop the process ( after about 30 mins ).
xfs_check says I have a bad magic number and gives up.
do you know if there is any way I can recover my files?

Before trying this try to recover your partition with testdisk (pacman -S testdisk)
