Avi - Dvd

Hi guys,

I have 15 Avi files which i would like to play on my DVD player.

How do i do this?

You first have to create a DVD compliant mpeg2 stream. Maybe try avidemux, tovid, transcode.... for this. Transcode will do just about anything you want, but, it "can" get complicated.

Then, author the video (mpeg2). Varsha or DVDauthor.

Lastly, burn the image that was created with Varsha or Dvdauthor. Use your preferred burning software for this.

I would probably use Tovid or Avidemux for encoding.
Varsha is an easy to use GUI for authoring the DVD.

Tovid may do both encoding and authoring by this point...I have not used it in a long time.

I made some assumptions, that you don't have a DVD player capable of playing an avi fille for one.

You can use FFMPEG for this sort of thing, but this is a great place to start.

I've had horrible luck with DVD+R discs playing on stand alone players. DVD-R written at 1x work everywhere I've tested them.

I've had horrible luck with DVD+R discs playing on stand alone players. DVD-R written at 1x work everywhere I've tested them.

You can use bitsetting, flash the burner, to make a DVD+ to look like a DVD-ROM (which will play on any dvd player). The trick is finding a burner that allows bitsetting. I did this on a NEC 2510 (?) and it worked fine. I think you have to do this via DOS though.

takes me about 30 minutes to encode a bunch of avi+mpegs about 800mb all together; then it's a 3minuts burn ... complete with titles, chapters etc, etc..

deeveedee and tovid both worked well for me recently - you might also look at recent similar threads here.  There was a recent one that wend over this exact subject, IIRC.

Correct spelling is devede ..... and it is in AUR ; has a few basic dependencies and then will do most of the work for you.
