Just a guess, but when there are errors writing to /tmp, many times it's a full / partition ( or /tmp if you put it by itself ).

Well, since you said you just updated, it's possible /var/cache/pacman/pkg/ is using all your space.  Is /var it's own partition, or is it on / ?
Assuming it's on / and the newly downloaded files are the culprit,

pacman -Scc

should clear that out.  But that's only a temporary fix.  You'll need more space for / or you'll need to move /var to it's own ( bigger ) partition.  Or You'll need to tell pacman to use a different cache dir, on a bigger partition, for it's updates/downloads.
