Hi everybody!
I made a fresh install of Archlinux-0.8.
I use gentoo too in a second pc.
I wanted to upgrade the kernel. Every time I do it I get a kernel parnic.
I use the cd to reinstall the old kernel.
A newer kernel version appears, I want to upgrade it, I fall again in a kernel panic.
Does it mean I will be stuck with the cd install kernel version for ever till there is a new archlinux version cd?
By the way, I do run /sbin/lilo after the kernel upgrade and I do check my /etc/fstab and /etc/lilo.conf .
It seems for me the hard drives have been changed to something else and I don't know to what!
Thank you for your help

Hi...
I'm pretty sure that your drives changed with the new kernel from /dev/hdX to /dev/sdX
It has already been discussed here in the forum...
And I think the wiki also gives this hint

I thought it was that too, and I hoped it would be that but it did not work.
Lilo told me it cannot find neither /dev/hda nor /dev/sda.
Fortunately I installed Archlinux on a second pc I can "play" with.

Understand me well, I do like Archlinux.
Would it be possible to install a new kernel along the kernel your system has already?
This way you can switch back to your working system, and after checking it up, you can uninstall the older or the newer kernel.
And your system will always be working!
Does pacman offers this possibility?

Guess you could rename / copy the working kernel so it wont get overwritten?
I usually have default arch kernel and beyond / ck, those don't usually upgrade at same time so atleast one works while tweaking with the latest (Solved lotsa problems with .20 by staying with beyond .19 till now )
