leaving arch

has nothing to do with the distro or the people involved, it is that arch is not going in the direction i wanted it to take me. maybe it is the distro and the people, but some of the new changes and all the changes in general it seems some of the keep it simple principles have gone by the way side.

i have learned so much from arch and it really is a great distro, but other things need to take priority in my life and other distros have filled the bill for me and my family (mepis 6.5)

anyway, i know in other posts i have said i was here forever, but that was a year ago and a lot can happen in that time

Of course it has to do with the distro if you are leaving because you don't like where it's heading. These posts are completely useless unless you provide a list of things that you don't like and made you leave. Arch devs and users always want to improve the distro, so critiques are essential. I'm not trying to change your mind but these kind of posts remind me of the Gentoo forums.

People leave and people come, it's unavoidable, but threads like these are not a pleasant view for new comers. When browsing and searching the Gentoo forums, a lot of similar threads are being displayed and it is quite discouraging. Maybe a mod could create a sticky thread for people leaving and joining to say bye and hello.

Yes I'm FreeBSD user, but Arch is always there at the other harddrive. Sometimes I wish Arch to hell *g*, sometimes it's imo the best Linux you can get (imo superior to Gentoo and Debian) - something to live with, lot of highs and some lows

i second what equadon wrote ... the distro can't really improve on what isn't broken, or something that's said to be broken but has no name.. if that makes any sense///

"KISS" is not really definable (and a Linux distribution can not be entirely simple), but yet these threads are not constructive.

I agree with iphitus, there's a good chance that people who leave will come back.
In any case, it would be nice if people who leave give their reasons especially if they are switching to another distribution. This way the archlinux developers can fix the problems that caused a user to leave.

leaving is fine. but at least, post your problems in detail along with your goodbye. those of us who are still here may have the same problems, but may want to stick around to fix them...

There are a lot of jokes around about devs, and very little about how much we owe them. @ mikko: The only thing I know about Confucius is that he would have never made such a bad joke as you did (totally un-Confucian).

Actually, I don't question Confucius' principles - I just wonder if Mikko (or anyone else) ever lives up to these.
