manslide: I don't see any result/preview

I wanted to try out manslide, as it seemed to be what I'm searching for. Installation went fine and I now have a nice GUI. I can add Pictures and they show up in the timeline, but if I klick "Play", I see no preview, but I must klick stop before I can edit my slideshow further.

On the console, Manslide says:

libGL warning: 3D driver claims to not support visual 0x5b

But all my GL apps say this and work just fine (e.g. xmoto or googleearth).

When exporting my show as movie, I get a playable result, but for each pic there only is a gray background which fades to white (or vice versa?), nothing else.

Alteranatively you may give me a hint about other software to perform that task. It's also for a friend of mine, so it should have a nice gui and it should be intuitive (yes, we tried openoffice, but it doesn't handle many pics well).
