Wheraes pacman used to scroll a progress bar across, now it's acting like this:

Any way of correcting this minor (but annoying) weirdness?

also try searching the wiki for boost pacman might not be a bad idea
There shouldn't be any reason to learn more editor types than emacs or vi -- mg (1)

I'll tell you what, you have surprised me for 2 reasons. You hit the nail on the head, and made me realize how stupid I truly am. (Not that I needed any help )
Thanks!
I guess I never noticed this because I was usually doing my thing from the console, and not through KDE/virtual konsole.

I don't think it's a pacman 3 bug directly, works fine at my end with differant size terminals, maybe caused by some other app that I don't have installed.

The size of the display can be changed by click and drag on the right edge. This will provide enough space for the display you desire.
The selection of the display size caused this to occur...this size of the terminal display.
Prediction...This year will be a very odd year!

It sounds to me like a problem with iTerm. Maybe it interprets Carriage return characters as a carriage return & line feed, which would create the new line. Have a look in it's options, maybe it's configurable?:/
Another idea -- you could try a different terminal emulation setting in iTerm.
