KOffice 1.6.2 Released

KOffice 1.6.2 Released
KDE Office Suite Posted by Inge Wallin on Wednesday 21/Feb/2007, @13:41 from the alfabetets-användning-anar-aporna-aldrig dept.
The KOffice team today released KOffice 1.6.2, the second bug-fix release in their 1.6 series. Although this is a maintenance release, there are some new features in Krita (new filters and a smudge paint operation) and Kexi (a new User Mode to deploy Kexi applications). Many bugs were fixed, thanks to the helpful input of our users. We also have updated languages packs with no less than 4 new languages. You can read more about it in the announcement, and the release notes. A full changelog is also available. Currently, you can download binary packages for Kubuntu and SUSE.

It's very exciting, how the development of KOffice goes on, and I am planning on using it instead of OO. Any news when the new Arch package is going to be available?

Re: KOffice 1.6.2 Released

My experience is OO <-> KOffice is that KOffice messes up documents you create in OO. Apart from this that makes KOffice unusable for me, i prefer KOffice. (sounds really weird that i prefer a program that i don't use tongue)

Pajaro, I don't think that the mentioned problem is an issue any more. You really should try the recent version of KOffice, because it seems to be fully compliant to the OASIS OpenDocument Format now, have a look at the KOffice Website.

Re: KOffice 1.6.2 Released

The support for *.doc is crippled, I assume. The documents are oftenly not displayed properly and therefore KWord does not seem to be the perfect substitute for Microsoft Word. OOWriter is a lot better in this concern.

Re: KOffice 1.6.2 Released

The KOffice apps have quite some options for saving files. KWord can do it in MS Word, MS Write and RTF amongst others. The import filters may not be working all too well, have a look at the Supported File Formats. I can't really tell about the quality of those filter, because I for myself have to handle just PDF-files most of the time, and my former MS Word & MS Excel files are not that important (means I don't really care, if I have to make a fresh start with my docs when going with KOffice).

Re: KOffice 1.6.2 Released

It's more than a week now, that the new KOffice version has been released, but still no Arch package. Is it unmaintained? I don't want to push, but KOffice is surely not some unimportant software nobody cares about.

I don't mean to push either but I really do like koffice and I'm hoping this fixes some issues with kexi so its usable. I tried building the package myself and noticed it wasn't as easy as upping the version number. My guess is some of the configure flags are causing problems, maybe cut out the new ldconfig flag?

Still no updated packages. What's the proper procedure for such a case? Contact the maintainer?

I know very well that the package has not been update but that is because there's a couple of unresolved issues. Primarily with kexi. The suggestion to disable new ldflags is irrelevant to this problem btw. 1.6.2 will hit extra when it's ready.

Ok, thank's for the feedback, I just wasn't sure why nobody seemed to care about.

The current package doesn't have the magick filter included (even tho it has imagemagick as a dependency). I'm (90%) sure it was included with the previous package, dose anyone know what's up? wink
