hibernate and fan

When I resume out of hibernate, my fan refuses to turn on, causing my laptop to heat up quite a bit.  I was wondering what module I could load and unload so that the fan would kick in.  This isn't a problem when I come straight from booting up or a restart.  I know about the fan module, and have tried to load and unload that without success.  Cpu scaling does work out of hibernate, it just seems like the fan won't turn on.

Re: hibernate and fan

Err, it probably has to do with modularizing ACPI.

If fan doesn't work, you could try reloading thermal. The other ACPI modules are: ac, processor, button.

Re: hibernate and fan

When I tried to unload/load "thermal" I get:

ERROR: Module thermal does not exist in /proc/modules

Re: hibernate and fan

Update to kernel 2.6.21, it brings a lot of ACPI fixes (esp. a multithreaded ACPI queues) and it is a good bet that you problem will be solved by it.
