Yes, it's still neded. But one advantage is that it's one deprecated library less in a gnome desktop application (yes, libgnomeui must die as much as possible)

Unfortunately, epdfview is lacking in just about every way imaginable. Half of the time, it shows pdfs as completely blank, and it is ridiculously slow to render anything despite using poppler.
And you're right, I missed the part about still using gconf and gnome-vfs 
I am a gated community.

epdfview also re-invents the wheel with their printing support. For printing every new GTK application should use Gtk 2.10's print backend.

I've been using Xpdf for awhile and just haven't changed. I plan on trying out GNOME again next week and so I'll give Envice a try then. I'm interested because of it's ability to read and display other formats than PDF.

Evince is nice, but it uses too much memory, like eog - another gnome app. It's a pity as I like the gnome apps in general.
A-har epdfview uses less memory than evince. Thanks to whoever suggested it,
