Updating packages

Some questions: how are the packaged updated in Arch? I mean, when a package is updated it's automatically rebuilded for both i686 and x86-64 or someone does it manually? How many people are working on ports?

I love Arch64 but it lacks many packages, even it the current and extra repositories... I would like to help building packages but I guess I should be a TU to do so... I feel like an eunuch in the earth of women!
