Mounting SD/Multimedia Card on a laptop

Hello everyone,

As always I'm posting at work, so I cannot be really precise right now, but the problem is as follow :

I own a laptop HP dv4275 and it has a place (on the left) in which I can insert SD cards (or many other kinds). I do not have the specifity of that "reader" (I don't know the word for it) and I cannot figure how to find those specifities...

Currently it's not functionning which is a shame, as I've bought a digital camera and I'd like to see my photos in Linux without having to use the usb cable sold with it...

So if, for now, while waiting for me to be more precise, someone has any ideas, this would be nice !
More info to come this evening...

Thanks a lot !

Re: Mounting SD/Multimedia Card on a laptop

Does the card reader appear in the output of lspci ?
if yes past the line talking about it.

Re: Mounting SD/Multimedia Card on a laptop

My card reader shows up as four /dev/sdX entries - one for each type of card supported.

Also, the only module needed by this reader is usb-storage. YMMV.

Re: Mounting SD/Multimedia Card on a laptop

Insert a card in your reader, then in a terminal run dmesg, you should see an output about a new device.

For example, I get:

SCSI device sdf: 126912 512-byte hdwr sectors (65 MB)
sdf: Write Protect is off
sdf: Mode Sense: 03 00 00 00
sdf: assuming drive cache: write through
SCSI device sdf: 126912 512-byte hdwr sectors (65 MB)
sdf: Write Protect is off
sdf: Mode Sense: 03 00 00 00
sdf: assuming drive cache: write through
 sdf: sdf1

At the end you see the device used mby your card.

To use it:
1. Install pmout packages : pacman -S pmount
2. Mount the card : pmount /dev/sdf1
3. Look in /media folder.

P.S: if you use gnome or xfce or kde (or any desktop using HAL) you can mount the card with a graphical interface
