you don't tell us your location but if you are in north america

Try changing the protocol of some of the mirrors in the pacman.d/ files. A lot of them may provide HTTP and we just don't add dups of each mirror to the files.

http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Mirrors should provide all available protocols.
