I have a SB Audigy card and I would like to plug the line out on my notebook into the line in on my desktop (Arch Linux Machine). I have the correct cable, but I get no sound from my Windows Notebook. I have Line In enabled and the volume up in kMix. With Linux, do I need some kind of program that needs to listen toLine In and out put the signal? I would like to be able to do a direct passthrough from line in to line out to the bid speaker system. That is why I want to do this, so I don't need to switch audio cables to get my notebook on the big speaker system.
Thanks

Unmuting it should work, or at least it works with many cards. Are you sure the slider you moved is really the right one? I don't know about the Audigy, but my SB Live has a whole lot of faders on it.

Yeah. I looked in the console app alsamixer to double check. Line in is unmuted and almost at full volume. I am really puzzeled by this. Does anyone know if the Line In on the Audigy 2 ZS is a combo SPDIF/Analog in and the choce needs to be selected? I know there are such jacks on some cards. I didn't see any choice in alsamixer or kMix for that.
I triple checked that I have the cable pluged into the right port too.

Okay. I fixed it by turning up something called Analog Mix in Alsamixer. :S I have no idea what it does but I now I have sound.

Yup. Some cards have a baffling array of options.
