Hi All,
I have been using gentoo for the last +- 5 years anyway after a hdd dying on me yesterday I decided to try arch last night.
I downloaded and installed the ISO and was impressed with the speed, simplicity and my general first impression.
I had also downloaded some extra packages including openbox, qemu, blah blah blah.
I installed the additional packages using the command
# pacman -A <package name>
all seemed to go well until I tried to run the application this is what I got.
$ figlet
/usr/bin/figlet: cannot execute binary file
My question is this, I downloaded these packages from the extras/os/x86_64 folder from the same mirror I dl'ed the ISO.
how can the be an incompat. ?
I did not run
$ file <filename>
to check the format as I did not think of it last night, I have googled but come up with nothing :-(
Overall I think I really like Archlinux I just need to use it a bit more but first impressions are really good, I suddenly understand the hype.

Why A? Just use:
pacman -S <package name>

The proper use of ....pacman -A ........
With pacman -S the "package name" is used and it is handled through the pacman install routine.
With..... pacman -A... the full ID of the .pkg.tar.gz must be utilized and the full path.such as...
pacman -A /home/nerolinux-3.0.0.0-2.pkg.tar.gz
usually, the package is entered in the command line by click and paste.
That should solve your install prob....
