hda-intel Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) High Definition Audi

Hi,
I have some problems in Arch (audio). I downloaded alsa-utils and oss packages via packman and after alsaconf configuration (it told me Have fun. Does it means fun with settings? ;-) ) I cant hear anything.

I tried aplay to play audio:

ALSA lib pcm_dmix.c:864:(snd_pcm_dmix_open) unable to open slave
aplay: main:545: audio open error: Device or resource busy

And this is VLC utput :

ALSA lib pcm_dmix.c:864:(snd_pcm_dmix_open) unable to open slave
[00000332] oss audio output error: cannot open audio device (/dev/dsp)
ALSA lib pcm_dmix.c:864:(snd_pcm_dmix_open) unable to open slave
[00000332] main audio output error: couldn't find a filter for the conversion
[00000332] main audio output error: couldn't create audio output pipeline

aplay and VLC runned with root privilegies....

Hi I had the same issue, but could get rid off it the following way.

1. check this site and your connectors to find out which card you really have:
http://www.linux-club.de/faq/Sound_:_In … _/_AC%2797

2. edit your /etc/modprobe.conf to match your card:

alias snd-card-0 snd-hda-intel
alias sound-slot-0 snd-hda-intel
options snd-hda-intel model=?????

for ex. ..model=6stack-dig

3. I also deleted everything in /dev/snd/

4. rebooted and finally sound was there.

yeah i see this posted as a fix everywhere but it never works on my laptop. its a toshiba satellite. the kernel bug has been around since like .20 and hasnt been fixed yet. is suggest sticking with .18 till the up stream guys get their act together and start fixing the kernel. we already lost beyond because they broke so much that someone got fed up

Keep coming back to Arch because its hands down the most amazing distro God has given us.
