Pacman problem

Hi Archers,

Having a problem with the new pacman. I  installed the new pacman, but now it asks me whether I want to swap some packages (such as pidgin for game); after asking me it has to be prompted again to install the other packages (by pressing Enter).

Then, after downloading the new packages it segfaults:

error: failed retrieving file 'bftpd-1.8-1.pkg.tar.gz' from ftp.parrswood.manchester.sch.uk : Not Found[1]    15039 segmentation fault  sudo pacman -Syu

Is parrswood experiencing problems, or is it something else?

Update: I doubt it's parrswood, as I tried commenting out parrswood and using the Irish mirror - which resulted in an IMMEDIATE segfault.

TIA

Jeff

Re: Pacman problem

Do you see anything interesting by adding the --debug option to pacman?
or maybe higher levels with --debug=2 or 3

pacman roulette : pacman -S $(pacman -Slq | LANG=C sort -R | head -n $((RANDOM % 10)))

Ah! yes:
<quote>error: failed to commit transaction (corrupted package)
archive openldap-2.3.35-1.pkg.tar.gz was corrupted (bad MD5 or SHA1 checksum)

errors occurred, no packages were upgraded.</quote>

thanks for suggesting that.

Re: Pacman problem

hmm, I'm confused. I don't remember needing the debug flag for seeing a corrupted package.
and I don't remember a corrupted package causing pacman to segfault.
But well, you tried removing the corrupted package? Does it work after that?

Re: Pacman problem

Just to discard a possible mirror problem, I've been using parrswood with no problems at all.

Thanks to Parrs Wood High School for the mirror, BTW.

Re: Pacman problem

I had a problem getting packages from pacman.  It was because my ISP stopped all ftp traffic to my  IP.  I changed my MAC address and got a new IP from my ISP.  Life was good again:)

weird..
Otherwise, several mirrors allow using both http and ftp, so you might have tried that with your mirrors.

Re: Pacman problem

FYI, I solved the problem by changing to the US mirrors. Will change back next time I use pacman -Syu and see how it goes.

Thanks for the replies, all.

hi twenex. just down the road from u  in F*lton  smile

always found parswood to be a bit hit and miss.
i now use the   Server = ftp://ftp.hosteurope.de/mirror/ftp.arch … nt/os/i686    for upgrades. its reliable and Fast.
