Cannot Print Text

Ok, this is a weird problem. I have an HP DeskJet 895C connected to my computer. Cups sees it just fine, hplip is in front of cups in the daemons line in my rc.conf file. When I print the test page, the graphics print just fine, but no text appears. When I print an email containing photos, the photos print just fine, but no text prints. Same with web pages. Graphics print, but text does not.

I know I am not out of ink because the greyscale graphic in the test page prints, as does the color one.

the settings in the cups page:

Description: HP DeskJet 895C
Location: Computer Room
Make and Model: HP DeskJet 895C Foomatic/hpijs (recommended)
Printer State: idle, accepting jobs, published.
Device URI: parallel:/dev/lp0

Any ideas of how to get my text back?
