2007.05 Duke ISOs released, installation feedback

Hi Archlinux Community,
17th May, 16:10 CEST (Central European Summer Time)
it's done final 2007.05 Duke ISOs for i686 and x86_64 are ready

Get Archlinux ISOs in /iso/2007.05/{i686,x86_64} on your favorite mirror.

Please don't forget to check md5sums.

Torrents are already up and seeded.
Metalink packages will be prepared soon.

Changelog to last Voodoo installation ISO:
- pacman3 usage
- kernel 2.6.21.1 usage

Setup changes:
- soundcards are now also ordered by hwdetect
- rsync has been added to installation environment
- proxy support during ftp installation
- selection to copy installation network setup to final installed system
- selection about keeping package cache during cd/ftp installation
- selection of primary pacman sync server added
- fixed grub installing on software raid devices

Could someone explain those changes to me? :roll:

- soundcards are now also ordered by hwdetect (the benefits )
- rsync has been added to installation environment
- selection to copy installation network setup to final installed system
- selection about keeping package cache during cd/ftp installation (wasn't this in setup long time ago?)
- selection of primary pacman sync server added (so i got a single SERVER in pacman.conf right after install now?)

Today I installed Duke on my machine, I mentioned two little bumps:

- Installation via ftp-iso (25MB) doesnt work. Downloading the packages from base doesn't start, but synchronising the package database with the mirrors (I tested it with different ones) works fine before.  There were no error message or something like this, it just happend nothing ... Anyway, I downloaded the base-isos and installed Duke with them. Works fine.

- While starting XFCE I run into problems with /tmp. By default, it is not writable for every user. Why? Of course, it is easy to fix, but in Voodoo there was no need for that, /tmp was writable for everyone. Is there any reason for this change or is it only a little bug?

This appeared to be previously unknown pacman bug

That's possible, I didn't wait long enough. By Voodoo I was not used such a silent way of downloading the packages

I just tried the ftp iso -
Some things weird :

in my rc.conf : I had a space between eth0 and '=' like :

eth0 =dhcp

and in current, extra etc I had the adress of server selected via install without the "Server =" ...

Imagine my surprise when I rebooted and saw that eth0 no such device... and couldn't reach the internet...

Well, despite this, everything seems to be ok...

I am installing gnome , right now..

Found the torrents which I'm currently seeding.
Uploaded them unchanged on linuxtracker.org with a description & nfo (from tpowa announce).
BTW, searching for Arch on piratebay (as well as meganova, mininova and torrentz) did not show any positive results, even when registered tracker is piratebay !?

one comment on the bug says, that the /tmp bug is solved, and with a ftp install there is no problem any more, so ive tried to do a net install, and the bug is still here. i cant do anything. i synced with the main archlinux server, but there are no fixes, what can i do?

It is fixed in pacman CVS, but no new pacman bugfix package is released yet.
It can be also worked around by chmodding in post_install() in filesystem.
I think the first one or both fixes will be released soon.

As a quick workaround install:

pacman -U http://www.archlinux.de/~pierre/packages/i686/filesystem-0.8-7.1-i686.pkg.tar.gz

or

pacman -U http://www.archlinux.de/~pierre/packages/x86_64/filesystem-0.8-7.1-x86_64.pkg.tar.gz

Yes, this is done intentionally.
It was removed because it is useless with rolling release system, but then added back as empty just for compatability with software that checks for its existance to know its running on Arch.
