Correct procedure for video card upgrade?

I will be upgrading from an nVidia 7600GT to a 7800GT this evening.
Can I just unplug the old and plug in the new card, or is there a procedure for reinstalling the driver and X?

Re: Correct procedure for video card upgrade?

Haven't they got the same driver?
Otherwise, install the new driver and set up your xorg.conf, the new settings wont be applied until an X restart so this can't cause a problem. Now shutdown and replace the videocard, if you boot now X will be using the new specified driver and should start without you noticing anything (except better graphics hopefully).

Yes, I am sure they have the same driver.
Should I just pop in the new card and see what happens? tongue

I guess, I don't think your type of videocard is specified anywhere else.
