[Gnome]Mounted Drives do not appear in the Desktop

hi all...
when i mounted my external drives, usb's pens, and even the the crypted partition, the desktop icon does not appear... but when i mount a cd or a dvd.... the icon appears :S what's the matter....
i'm using the latest gnome release...

If you fire up gconf-editor, is the /apps/nautilus/desktop/volumes_visible key set?
Also, are you manually mounting the drives or letting them automount ?

Do you have the hal daemon running? Add "hal" to your list of daemons at the end of your /etc/rc.conf file. I couldn't see my MP3 player until a enabled that. Hope it helps.

yes... and yes.... but still nothing :S it's really weird :S don't know what in earth is going down :S

make sure you add yourself to the optical group
