Not that I take these rankings seriously. but it's rather interesting going back to the different years to see what distros where on the top of the heap as they say.

This just proves distrowatch is broken, 2 quick releases and we rocket up.

Not at all, we've some different numbers with 378 and still going up, place 22.
That's not that broken, this just shows up that we've been looked at a lot of the past 7 days, and isn't representative.

Bingo. We always said it was releases that would bump us, eh?
I've never heard of mint or sabayon... the seem pretty lame ideas though.

Sabayon is pretty popular "Gentoo Stage 4", but mint is just ubuntu with flashplayer. Didn't heard about PCLinuxOS much:/

I'll start a new shining distrib, one new release per day, with 7 alternatives : gshining, kshining, xshining, fshining, oshining, dshining, wshining.
That way, I'm sure to generate the maximal spam and that the name is well spread, but I still keep a main one, so that people stay focused on it.

distrowatch raking doesnt mean shi*...if most peolple dont even try arch....ubuntu with is promotions and publicities its normal to make to the first place..them noobs get sick of it and try another one but never the less simple...:P...all those top dstros are overcharged with packages and heavy scripts...i rather like those from the bothom...now that is a contribucion to the linux world..not some allready developed and payed distros
no mather what people say arch will allways come 1 place and gentoo second!

I think that the overall ranking is more important than the 7 day one.
22 isn't bad at all.

My ham and cheese sandwich just shot up 3 places!!!
It is now positioned in between my neighbor's pastrami on rye (in 5th), and the clam chowder at work (7th). Clam seems to be dropping (must be the time of year)
I predict with a new sandwich release, ham and cheese will move up to 4th before the month is over....
Go ham!

I agree. Plus, some distros actively encourage their users to flock to DW so they can up their score.
