I've had a lot of problems in the above configuration. In the end I downloaded and compiled ndiswrapper-1.37 which now works flawlessly.

Yeah ndiswrapper tends to fail off and on with each version. It's one of those "when it hangs, it hangs hard" drivers... this is partially why I do the ndiswrapper packaging slowly - not only do they release things quickly, but quick releases often indicate bugs on their side.
Did you build 1.44 yourself? 1.43 is currently in the repos and is more stable than the last (1.37) - did you try 1.43?

Hmmm well if 1.43 and 1.44 both cause you problems, I will probably hold off on the update until 1.45 - could you try that one when it comes out and let me know if it works?
