No MASTER on alsamixer.
My sound works fine but I don't see a Master switch whenever I call alsamixer. Is this correct? Or must I make any changes?

I think it may have something to do with your sound card. Mine, an INTEL does not have one neither. I have PCM, Front and Front MI.
It works fine though.

i get this on my snd-hda-intel, my laptop's snd-intel8x0 does not have this issue.

When using alsamixer on USB audio, only PCM is displayed...Intel ich5...
USB audio is different, it's dependent on the capabilities of the USB chip, not the system bus. The above intel drivers are all integrate audio, snd-intel8x0 and snd-hda-intel.

It really depends on your hardware and the design of the driver. I got 6 "DAC"s to control six mono analog output on ICE1712 and there is no Master either.

Mine too. Integrated audio chip. Still I have had no problems with it. That is great.
