boot problem

i installed arch (duke) on my laptop, a thinkpad R40. it's on hda7, with slackware on hda5 using lilo. i left the lilo install so i could boot back into slack until i got arch configured, when i'll change it to grub from arch, but i can't get that far b/c i'm getting a kernel panic about it not finding the init, etc. i wondered if it's the new sdxx naming scheme causing problems, so i changed it in lilo (still installing from slack, remember) from hda7 to sda7 (also changing the other hd parameters to sd), but it didn't work.

do i just need to install a bootloader from arch to get it to work so it can use the right hd designations, or is there likely another problem?

Re: boot problem

Could you pastebin your /etc/lilo.conf and /etc/mkinitcpio.conf and post links to it here?
