Where is my xorg.conf?

Where is my xorg.conf? I am nearly 100% sure I put it in /etc/X11/xorg.conf, but it isn't there anymore ?! The backup of the default xorg.conf (I renamed it to xorg.conf.bak) is gone too. The xinitrc directory is still there, btw.

I installed autofs and wine in the meantime, and I wanted to change some option in my xorg.conf...

But xorg still works (default xorg.conf didn't work), fonts are good, resolution is good, nothing changed.

locate xorg.conf tells me that there are 3: the man page, the xorg.conf template of hwd, and my own backup xorg.conf (in my home dir, not in /etc/X11).

What am I missing? Thanks for your help.

Re: Where is my xorg.conf?

create a new one via "xorgconfig"  or copy the one from home
why its gone ,? i dont know ?
but it dont take much to create one but it may take a bit to tweak it to your liking

OK, I'll do that.

Does xorg cache the parsed xorg.conf somewhere? It's strange that xorg still works without the file...

Re: Where is my xorg.conf?

maybe it's in /etc/X11/xorg.conf but locate haven't cached it yet? you can't ls /etc/X11/xorg.conf?

Yes, it loads with the "vesa" driver and the highest resolution your monitor will handle.
