getting ath0 an address...

if I tell rc.conf that I want ath0 to be dhcp, then ath0 times out.  If I give ath0 an address , broadcast, netmask in rc.conf, then manually do "dhcpcd ath0"  I get an address.

It acts the same way with a different chipset, too.

why?  how can I fix that?
