Recently used applications in gnome

I've tried to keep this menu inactive,

rm .recently-used .recently-used.xbel
touch .recently-used .recently-used.xbel
chmod 400 .recently-used .recently-used.xbel

but it doesn't work. Although there are no entries in either file, I'm still seeing recent files being added under the places menu. Does anyone know where else this information is stored?

Re: Recently used applications in gnome

the places menu uses ~/.recently-used as well (.xbel, i dunno what that's specifically for)

but if you want to disable this, ( kinda a hack ) .. do

rm ~/.recently-used
mkdir ~/.recently-used

i wouldn't remove *.xbel, it appears to cause nautilus to crash
