Is something wrong with my pacman repos?

I dont know why, but everyday I do a Pacman -Sy, and aways current, extra and community are up to date. But I notice a lot of apps are outdated, for exemple, when I search for kde, I got  3.5.6-1 version, not the 3.5.7...

May be its because I am using arch64?

You might be using a mirror that has old files. Go in there by hand (with ftp) and see if it looks reasonable.

Well, the ftps I visited are with kde 3.5.6-1 too... I think arch64 updates come later than I expected...

You got it. Arch64 never claimed to be as "up to date" as it's older brother Arch (i686). It's a work in progress...

From the wiki:

"Current+Extra repos are ported and almost everything is up to date, only hours or a few days at most behind ArchLinux i686. Our TU's are trying to port the Community repo now."

afaik arch64 is short on manpower right now, and according to the mailing list they said they will not be as up-to-date as i686 because of that.. you can always help out though

If I were not a noob, I would help, but I am only a law student that likes linux... tongue

It's sad, because I think arch 64 diserves more attention of the arch community, maybe even more attention than arch 686 diserve, 'cause I think most of the processors today support 64bits, even here in Brazil, where the PCs are pretty expensive. Buts thats just my opinion... wink

Re: Is something wrong with my pacman repos?

Arch64 deserves some more attention. However, 99% of the 64 bit compiled binaries are not faster (if that is what you're after). Most applications today are just compiled in 64 bit mode, but _not_ optimized (that is, they have to be rewritten to utilize 64 bit cpu:s (sadly).
Many binary blobs (proprietary codecs/appz) are also _not_ supported, and that acctually makes 32 bit a more convenient platform _until_ we've got the same situation for Arch64.

So, 32 bit arch is probably the most important platform for now.

Re: Is something wrong with my pacman repos?

I think I will do a test drive with arch 686...

Does arch 686 stock kernel suport core 2 duo, I mean, will it use both CPUs?

Re: Is something wrong with my pacman repos?

pacman -Sy only updates the database; to upgrade all packages do a pacman -Syu.
