Gnome lags

Hi everyone.

I've got a little problem running gnome on a fully up to date duke system. The problem is that gnome is quite slow and seems to lag. I've a fairly good system (1GB ram, athlon x2 processor) and htop gives no indication that a process is running wild. The system is using around 130MB ram and none of the 2 cpus is going over 20% ever. Still, gnome seems to  lag.

I've read that I should add my hostname to /etc/hosts which I did but this didn't improve my situation. My /etc/hosts is:

127.0.0.1       localhost.localdomain   localhost myhostname

I've looked into the log-files but didn't find anything interesting so I'm pretty clueless what could be the reason for the slowish system performance.

Anyone?

Is loopback enabled in /etc/rc.conf?

yes. loopback device is enabled in rc.conf as follows:

lo="lo 127.0.0.1"
interfaces=(lo wlan0)
