XFCE4: Could not open "clock" module [solved]

This has been a problem for me for a while, and it's utterly annoying.  I can't add a clock to my GUI.  And when I finally mess around with it and get it to appear one way or another, it disappears the next time I start XFCE.

How can I get a clock on my panel?!

Do you have a folder/file named 'clock' in the directory you start xfce4-panel (probably your home directory)?

There's some panel files in ~/.config/xfce4/panel, but same deal when I tinker with them.  If I remove the last module manually, separator-13.rc, I can add the clock to the panel.  But when I restart XFCE4, it's gone.

xfce4-panel lies in /usr/bin - there isn't a clock folder there.

/usr/bin is not the start directory when starting xfce4-panel, probably your home directory so if there is a clock folder/file there, loading the module fails. But if you can add the clock and after a restart it is gone (and the ~/.config/xfce4/panel/panel.xml file has no clock entry), you probably have some permission problem.

Ah! Yeah!  I did have a folder named "clock" on my ~ directory.  I got cario-clock from the AUR and put it in the folder I created, ~/clock.  Great work, it works now, haha.

Very odd that it would make a difference though ...

I've already fixed this bug in the 4.4 branch, so it will be fixed in Xfce 4.4.2.
