Today I updated system to KDE 3.5.7 and lost battery monitor
no other changes made
cat /proc/acpi/battery/*/state
shows current status of battery

Not sure if this will help, but have you logged out then back in. I couldn't log back into a couple of sites that need passwords until I done that.

I updated KDE from console and then restarted box. I tried to logout/login few times.

I can confirm this. But battery status is shown correctly in kcontrol; only the taskbar applet does not appear.
I filed a bug report: http://bugs.archlinux.org/task/7232
If you have more information about this issue please add it.

Pierre: filing a bug you would get assigned to yourself isn't that helpfull. better get in contact with kde develeopers and their bugtracker

I noticed this too and just filed a bug on the KDE bugtracker.

I have created a dumb n quick patch for this issue that simply reverts klaptopdaemon back to 3.5.6...
It works so far but i havent tested it that much... Take a look into the PKGBUILD how to apply it, and dont forget to rebuild makefiles with make -f admin/Makefile.common

Would you happen to know if the resulting package safe to force upon vanilla KDE 3.5.7? I get the feeling it won't appreciate my lack of the kdemod dependencies on my system.
If not, I can just as easily hold off until there's a revision update with it patched.

No, dont force the package and dont use the PKGBUILD, just rebuild vanilla kdeutils with the patch applied... You can see how its done when you take a look into the PKGBUILD...

when making pkg I am getting;
"ERROR: xmms-dynamic.patch was not found in the build directory and is not a proper URL.:
xmms-dynamic patch is not on any of the servers listed
Offline
I also am getting the xmms-dynamic patch error from above. I was wondering if anyone found a solution to that?

solution is quite simple (I reported only script error)
it should be
kdeutils-3.5.7-xmms-dynamic.patch
not
xmms-dynamic.patch
you can download this from kde ftp server
hope this will help

I should have thought of that, must have been too late at night. I'll edit my pkgbuild and see what happens.
