Pacman Stalling

Updated Pacman today and now while it looks for servers and dependencies it stalls, sometimes upto abotu 1 minute before it does anything? Was ok till upgrade.

Re: Pacman Stalling

It might be related.  Just to check... can you run with --debug and see if it is actually outputting anything? XFS might just be poor when it comes to running through a bunch of small files like that.

Re: Pacman Stalling

My experience with pacman on XFS is bad. It works, but it thrashes the disk for about a minute (with pdflush sucking up tons of CPU) before actually doing anything. Sometimes it will come before syncing, and sometimes between syncing and updating. Pacman2 was like this also.

Switching this filesystem to ext3 solved all of this.

Re: Pacman Stalling

Can confirm this, my system with xfs also takes a way longer to step trough the files.

Hey, i just found a pro for a pacman database - that wouldn't happen any longer big_smile. *notes down*
