Hello all,
I recently tried arch for the first time coming from Ubuntu (been using it for 2 years, couldnt find a distro I liked) and loved it. I like everything about it, except I have a problem. It, like most distros, doesnt run on my real hardware because I have a damaged Pentium D that doesn't boot any kernel with the SMP module included (at all) or if it does boot, many things dont work properly. As a result im running Ubuntu Dapper with a 2.6.15 kernel with SMP disabled and have not been able to boot any kernel after that.
Then I went on the #archlinux channel on freenode and asked if I could just drop a custom compiled kernel in there, and if it would work. They told me it should be fine and I downloaded and compile the 2.6.21 sources from kernel.org, but my system doesnt boot at all, for some reason GRUB doesnt recognize the executable format and fails to launch it in the first place. I didn't overwrite the Arch kernel by the way either. So is there anything I can do about this, or is there an older official kernel build from arch that I can install (like a 2.6.15 because I know that works fine).
Thanks!
