from the title you can imagine my question: "wich arch on core 2 duo, i686 or x64??"

Both will work. 64 has fewer packages built right now, but the devs are working on that.

We have nearly the same packages as i686. There is only some community lag, but that isn't really much...
See http://archlinux.org/~andyrtr/pkg_diff.html for detail what is missing in arch64 or outdated or the other way round, what is outdated in i686. Then decide if the missing apps are necessary for you or not....

No, not really. Some people see a better performance on arch64, others don't. For me, arch64 is "faster". I had run both arch32 and arch64 on the same computer, and arch64 runs smoother. Now I have only arch64 on my computer. But that is my personal feeling.
