Problems watching videos

When I try to watch a video the player crashes. Ive tried xine and mplayer they both do it... Im thinking it may be an issue with X again since there was an issue with X and Gimp yesterday and they forced a downgrade of libx11 in this morning. Anyone else having this problem?

Any video at all, or just specific videos?  If you launch the players from the cmd line, what output do you get when they crash?

A few months back I started having problems with certain avis on my arch box, but only certain ones - most avis play and preview just fine.  These certain ones simply kick my system's ass, either to preview or to play.  I just turned off preview and decided not to play these avis, but the problem persists.  As much as I love Arch, my multimedia experience on it has been somewhat short of spectacular for the last ~6 months.
