USB audio

My system has a USB audio device (irda and analog-stereo) which is connected to a USB2.0 four port hub.

My keybd and mouse are on one port(usb 1.1) and the other two have flash devices connected.

Regardless of the interface devices connected to the hub, USB audio sometimes is enabled at boot.

It acts as though a delay is necessary to allow for set-up time.

Kde is also involved since it autodetects the system audio params.

The system does not respond to after-boot-up attempts to enable USB audio.  Alsa mixer is not set to USB, the USB device on the hub is not indicating activity.

I conclude the USB device is not enabled.

Is there a procedure to restart the USB device after boot-up?

When it does start, it begins indicating at the ending entries of KDE.  No attempts within KDE audio setup have corrected the problem...suggesting it is a usb device enable problem.

Re: USB audio

These comments may be way off the mark, but since it was my experience, let me share it.
I use skype with a Plantronics USB headset, and have a USB port on my monitor. The headset was not recognized on the monitor port. When I connected to a port directly on the computer, the headset was recognized immediately (and works perfectly).
It may be a power question. It appears that not all USB ports are created equal.

Re: USB audio

I have a dual setup of computers, one with arch and 3GB ram.  No USB HDD boot capability.

Both use common LCD and keybd/mouse and USB audio device (not simultaneously but selectable).

Other computer has USB HDD boot capability with 2GB ram.

All elements are connected to a USB hub device (except the LCD which has a Y cable).  The changeover requires only one usb cable change to the hub.

The USB audio operates at times.

When used previously on a separate USB connection, the same problem was encountered...intermittent USB audio enable.

It seems that it is a timing problem during boot...device settling time....
