Hello, I brought this topic up for a while ago, I'm looking for the prefect music player, it has to be based on gtk+2, few deps, have its own backend like mpd and audacious etc, and support last.fm scrobbling, does there exista anything like that?
I think MPD is to much hassle etc.

Rhythmbox possibly, it's what I used before making the switch to Sonata + MPD (Which is a very nice combination IMO).

Well rhythmbox does use a gstreamer as an backend which sucks, and it's require lots of deps from gnome.

i would just use beep or xmms. you can use switch and the gtk themes to make the menus, etc. look less gtk-like.

I personally use XMMS. It doesn't use GTK2, though. So, maybe something like beep-media-player or audacious? They are based on XMMS. Audacious has three deps, and I'm pretty sure it has scrobbling (last.fm) built in..
MPD doesn't really have that much hassle involved though.. It's pretty easy...

You must be very special then because "letters" has 7

Well I don't like those winamp inspired media players.

I like exaile.
It does scrobbling and junk.

I saw that on Planet OB the other day: http://nooms.de/projects/abraca/ - a GTK2 Client for xmms2
never tried it but it is from the Arch Community

I have no need to try it out because I'm totally satisfied with my mpd&ncmpc combo but it looks like smoon did an awesome job here...!
Haven't been here in a while. Still rocking Arch.

Try Aqualung for gapless playback from your music directory.

imo the music player which sucks less is audacious & thats what i use

You can try audacious or amarok.

I personally love audacious...but then again you said you dont like the winamp inspired players. But I like the fact that I can use winamp skins with audacious...because i think theres some pretty cool skins there

I use "mplayer radio-station-stream" the most, and mc + mpg123 for mp3s.

or maybe there is no gtk2 prefect music player

mpd is the only one that does exactly what you want, or maybe xmms2. I don't understand what you mean by hassle with mpd either, it couldnt be simpler.

what backend does mpd use?

what backend does mpd use?
mpd is the back end. paired up with something like sonata for the gtk+ it's a great combo and does everything the OP wants. it's very light and also powerful -- i really don't see how anyone can complain.

I like gmpc better than Sonata, its much more funcional, and it have very few deps.

Have you looked at gimmix? It's GTK and has very few deps.
