Hi all,
I installed emacs 22.1 today, but it does not start:
$ emacs
Warning: arch-independent data dir (/usr/share/emacs/22.1/etc/) does not exist.
Warning: Lisp directory `/usr/share/emacs/22.1/site-lisp' does not exist.
Warning: Lisp directory `/usr/share/emacs/site-lisp' does not exist.
Warning: Lisp directory `/usr/share/emacs/22.1/lisp' does not exist.
Warning: Lisp directory `/usr/share/emacs/22.1/leim' does not exist.
Cannot open load file: term/x-win
A little analysis showed that the /usr/share/emacs directory is not user readable. Is this a known bug?

Try reinstalling it. I don't have this error here. The directory has correct permissions:
$ ls -l /usr/share/ |grep emacs
drwxr-xr-x 4 root root 4.0K 2007-06-07 19:54 emacs/
