aarrghh! seg faults after upgrade + iconv error [solved]

after a pacman upgrade on my workstation I got a seg fault running museek-plus.
I reinstalled museek from svn and now its running again, however on the laptop I'm getting a builld error:

Checking for iconv input type...Couldn't determine what iconv 
wants for input.. Do you have glibc installed?

I'm using the same PKGBUILD and glibc 2.6-2 is installed on both machines.

This is the first time I've seen this. What is iconv? How can I get around this?
